Finally! So I never again forget and have to hunt down various non-English-speakers who have never done it themselves and can't really help me... Thank God for store clerks who helpfully, even though you didn't buy it from them, call up the number on the receipt and find out how to do it, then figure it all out with you. I'm still surprised that the instructions are so unclear that nobody can ever figure them out, but anyway, it goes like this...
-Enter *114* (or whatever number is between the asterisks -- include the asterisks)
-Enter the top 12-digit number, the one on the second line after the total amount you paid for the card refill (it goes in directly after the *114*, no spaces)
-Enter # (no space)
-Press okay/call/go/green
-Wait for verification that credit has been added (e.g. "done" + checkmark)
Yay!
