A weird day

There's a slight drizzle -- light and barely-there, and I know the sun is right behind those cottony-dense clouds: the kind of drizzle that makes the weather seem schizophrenic.

The entire apartment building's (maybe the compound's?) electricity just went off for 5 minutes. This might not seem like such a big deal, but it's the first time it's happened, when I've been home, and when you live in a tiny place on the 15th floor that requires electricity to open the door (even though I'm told there's a bit of battery back-up power for the keypad), it can be a little disconcerting. I wasn't ready to walk out and I certainly didn't want to get stuck inside for any length of time, as I had banking to take care of. I'd been told I shouldn't get stuck, but I'm coming to not-believe everything I'm told. :D I cracked the door and put the chain on, so it wouldn't blow completely open.

Prepared and left.

Danshui is sooo empty... it's weird, because holidays usually pack out the place. Maybe everybody's made a long holiday of it (Brasilian-style: "the actual holiday was Wednesday, so let's include Thursday and Friday, then the weekend") and traveled to see family.

The main light stoplight I usually have to wait for, to cross over to the MRT station, was on the blink. Literally. For those of you who won't get that (harhar, I make a funny)... Usually, there's a little green man telling pedestrians they can cross, with a handy countdown of how many seconds you have left to get across. The green man moves and speeds up, according to how little time is left. The number of seconds varies, depending on the light you're at. This time, there was just a red man, the usual "don't cross" man, blinking. Well, usually that means "proceed with caution", when on foot. But this light never has that signal and all the other lights/signals were working as usual, so it's just not right.

It's going to be a weird day...

  1. Yeah the electricity short was weird, eh? That meant, essentially, I had no internet for most of the day which was a hassle. Then I realised I could have used the wire. So I am a lee-tle bit stupid. But now prepared! :D Also, selah!
