Someone tried calling Brasil a "third world country", today, and I tried to correct the misnomer, not because it's Brasil, but because terms and times have changed mightily since _some of us_ (aherm!) were young, heh.
Anyway, wikipedia's the devil (to me), but here's what it has to say re: what I was saying about Brasil (and most of those countries we used to call "third world") being a "developing country" now. Even more, it's "newly industrialized", too. :)
Developing country
Disclaimer: This is all very non-Brasilian terminology. I'm sure they'd see it completely differently. Just not as differently as those Aussies see the world, ahaha.
Personal disclaimer: I don't agree with even the term "developing", as it leaves me with the question of "developing to what?" and "who decides what is or isn't developed?" Obviously a very Western mentality (and while we're here: who decides which one is "West", anyway?), whereas, the American/European model might not be right or even desired in many other parts of the world. But that info's there for what it's worth, and "developing" is currently much more accurate than "third world", the way "third world" was being used... :)
