The weather on the map

Every time there's something weather-related in the area, I get concerned chats from people... I'm not sure how the news reads outside of Taiwan, but either it's much more alarmist than what goes on here or people here are used to these weather systems, so there isn't much abnormality when things go around...

I was awake last night when the earthquake happened and I didn't feel anything. That's not surprising, though, because it happened around the middle of the island and because our house was already being rattled by the winds from this typhoon that's around. So even if it did shake us, I wouldn't have noticed the difference.

For educational purposes:

See Taipei in the north? That's around where we are. Last night's earthquake hit "22.8 km (14.33 miles) southeast of Hualien", the other little red dot down there on the right side of the country. So we're rather far.

In other words, safe and sound.

For now.
