Too much drama. Not enough sci-fi.

That's my nutshell review on the Star Trek movie I finally yielded to watching.

But that's my die hard Star Trek fan (not trivia junkie) perspective. :)

I might come around, when I convince myself that just as Voyager will never be Enterprise and Enterprise will never be the Original Series, etc., this terrible habit they have these days of diluting and downgrading all the good movies to the "updated" way, might just be, instead, another "type", when it comes to Star Trek. Inconceivable? Yes. Fascinating? Not yet.

  1. Everything is deeply dramatic these days. It's how they ruined Mission Impossible 3 (which would have been fun if everyone just killed people like they did in the first two), and Casino Royale (hopefully Quantum of Solace isn't the same, but I haven't seen it).
Action movies should keep the drama to a minimum, and I feel the same probably applies to sci-fi. Then again, I don't care for sci-fi, and someone described Star Trek to me as being a "soap opera" that managed to include aliens and creepy people. I'll take my soap opera with normal people, if I must.

There are my thoughts. I know you care.

  3. Swimmingly, Ange. Swim-ming-ly. But I do expect drama in that. It's from a series of dramatic books - it wouldn't be right if they made it undramatic all of a sudden! Drama's fine - perhaps even great - so long as it's expected. Except in James Bond. Never good in James Bond.
