Exercise logic

I was telling someone, the other day, that I don't like jogging with someone else, because it's already so difficult to force myself to do it, that I'd rather work through the difficulty on my own. I also prefer to go at my own pace at any given time and that's hard to coordinate with the abilities and preferences of someone else. Anyway, something interesting that sort of corroborates my feelings... :) Along with other interesting points. Excerpted from msn.

1. Don't exercise with your "BFF."
"People end up talking more than exercising or slowing their speeds or [lowering] intensity levels to chat," ... walking or running with friends can prevent you from following your body's cues. If you want to speed up or slow down, for instance, you may not be able to coordinate that with someone else.
[I knew it wasn't logical for me to go with someone else, heh.]

2. Choose your workout clothes carefully.
... reds and oranges increase body temperature, which pumps you up for exercise and keeps you energized for a longer workout.
[Well, I never considered red for any scientifical reason, but next time I have a choice, I just might. :) ]

3. Drink pickle and pineapple juices.
The salt and vinegar in pickle juice can help muscles recover from sodium loss and decrease cramping.
[Interesting... Although our food rarely needs salt (and for all of you who know how much I just need my salt, you know that's quite a statement), I'd already been making a conscious effort to add salt to all my food, because I've been feeling sodium-deficient in this extreme heat and humidity. I've also been craving citrus/limes, so that must be the vinegar need. Hrm...]

4. Get off the elliptical trainer.
"If you can watch television or read while doing cardio, you're not working hard enough ..."
[Running uphill for 50 minutes is plenty of hard work, PTL.--Although I'll probably die from the impact of the asphalt and car fumes. :) ]

5. Don't sweat it.
... don't aim solely for a sweaty workout. Go for an intense one.
[Well, we get it ALL here in the summer, how special. :D ]

6. Practice your "Get-Up."
"It's one of the most functional exercises [meaning it trains your body for real-life situations], yet the majority of gym-goers have never heard of it. You move from lying down, up to a standing position, and back down, all while holding a weight above your head."
[No idea.]

7. Say "shhh."
As you say it, "Put your hands on your stomach and feel the contraction," ...
[Enjoy.]

8. Beware the hump.
To fight the hump, stretch your chest muscles and do exercises that retract your shoulder and neck, such as rows, front lat pull downs and upward dumbbell flys.
[I have terrible posture.]

9. Run barefoot.
Running barefoot could decrease the likelihood of plantar fasciitis, a running epidemic unknown 30 years ago, which is possibly caused by over-controlling shoes and/or orthotic arch supports used on normal feet, ...
[On the beach? The beeest!!!]

10. Kick and shout!
Participants chant or shout empowering affirmations while kicking, jumping or lunging.
[I use this occasionally, on the guys. Will begin incorporating it more regularly into life, to benefit my health, of course.]
