The weirdest thing happened yesterday...
On Saturday night, we had a small celebration for Michelle, who will be going in to remove some pins from her foot, which were previously put in due to a broken foot (I believe) -- she'll be off the foot, and many other things, for about a month, so some final partying was in order. :) We ended that around 2:00 and I fell asleep around 4:00.
All through the night, I kept wondering what time it was, marveling at how well and how long I was sleeping (this in a non-conscious state) and so on.
Finally, I decided, in my sleep, "I might as well at least see what time it is, otherwise, this is likely to go on forever and I don't want to waste too much of my day, although sleep is so nice... and so good..."
So I rolled over and checked the clock: 6:00.
"Huh? I haven't slept only 2 hours."
I'm pretty good at guessing how much time has passed, probably due to about 25 years of obsessing over it while not being able to sleep, aherm. :S
So I crawled out of bed and looked outside. I have no idea what kind of logic I was using, at this point, because if it was really 6:00, I shouldn't have gotten out of bed -- I should've complained that now I wouldn't been able to go back to sleep and then tried to sleep again. Maybe I didn't feel as tired as I usually would've, after only 2 hours of sleep.
The sun didn't look fully risen, which was kind of confusing. As I stood around a bit longer, it seemed the sun was actually un-rising. More confusion.
I looked outside again and peered into Shelah's room. Her table lamp was on and she was at her desk.
"Weird. She also went to bed at 2:00, so why would she be up at 6:00? I know she doesn't sleep-in a lot, but that's a little extreme..."
Small moment of panic and alarm.
"Is it 6:00 PM?! Gasp! It can't be!"
Now feeling extremely disoriented. Actually, it wasn't just disorientation or alarm or panic... it was a very weird feeling... like I'd been cheated... or like something nefarious had been done to me that I had no knowledge or recollection of!!
Ran to my computer and checked the time. It said 6:00-something. And it said "PM"!!
I listened for noise coming from the kitchen, but none was escaping up here.
"Weird, someone should be cooking [7:00] dinner by now... If it really is evening, where was all the noise today? Where was the coffee and breakfast smell? What happened to lunch?"
To complicate matters, it was drizzly and overcast, so the time of day -- for confirmation -- wasn't very discern-able, besides that distinct un-rising. Grrr.
Because of the dimming light, the lack of noise and my complete disorientation and loss of awareness of time, I felt like I had been asleep for a long time and woken up to something completely unknown. It was quite eerie -- similar, I imagine, to how one would feel if they had slept through the end of the world and awoken when all the action was over. I did, at one point, check that my actions were actually physical and having physical consequences, just to make sure I wasn't in another realm.
I washed my face. Still feeling very odd, like I'd been unconscious forever and had no clue what was going on. The lack of noise in the house didn't help matters.
I decided to check the AM/PM on my clock.
"6:00-something _PM_."
Ugh!
I got ready for the "day", went downstairs and saw Nicole quietly cooking dinner.
Still no other noise in the house.
I went to Hik and Angel's room, knowing I could bug them at practically any hour, as well as tell them I think I did an extremely psychotic and unusual never-happened-before thing.
Angel says, "Yeah, I was wondering what happened -- I went looking for you around 4:00, but heard your fan on, so figured you were taking a nap."
"Oh, yeah, I lock my door, too, when I'm sleeping, so you wouldn't have been able to get in, anyway."
I took Ryan for a little walk, visited Shelah and told her what had, apparently, happened.
Shelah, matter-of-factly: "So you slept 14 hours... I was just going to check on you, to see if you were still breathing, because some of us were commenting on how unusual it was that we hadn't seen you all day."
I know! Even when I don't sleep at night, I never sleep that long! The best I'll do is 11:00. Or maaaybe 12:00, if I'm extra calm. Or something.
14 hours?! Who on God's good earth does that?!
So I have no idea what happened. I did feel very cheated out of a rest day, sniff. Although, technically, I did exactly what the day is set aside for, God bless me. Aherm.
Later, I was able to fall asleep around 1:00 to wake up to my alarm at 7:00. How weird is that? You'd think I'd be completely awake and alive all night long.
Conclusions:
- In my old age, my body's bank is finally making claims on that sleep debt that's accumulated more and higher than the piles of trash they throw into the sea -- without even giving notice, the nerve!
- Maybe I was getting sick and my body decided to fight it right then (the only time I can sleep like there's no... not-sleeping... is when I'm sick -- I know I'm getting better as soon as I stop sleeping, again, heheh)
- My body decided it was fun to have weird schedules and it was getting too same-y the way it is, so wanted to have some fun turning things around, completely
- Someone dropped something in my tequila (aherm!!! haha)
- My sister -- Myki, who I had been chatting with around 3:00 -- had said she'd pray for me to sleep; maybe her prayer is like a hammer
- I have a terminal illness (that one came to me during devotions :D)
The fun and funny thing was that today's Proverbs instructed us to go to the ant -- thou sluggard! -- so I gave my "testimony".
What a sluggard.

Oh, yay! That prayer was answered ;). At least you were able to catch up on some much needed sleep, even though you lost your free day. That happend to me once several years ago, I stayed up till 7:00am chatting and then wasted my day sleeping ... a real sluggard, hehe.
